Visit the Maine Art Gallery during the Wiscasset Art Walk
The Maine Art Gallery’s fourth exhibition of the season, “Surroundings”, features Liz Hoag, Justine Lasdin-Springer, Lin Lisberger and Paige Taylor, with paintings that illustrate how they perceive their surroundings. In works that range from photographic depictions to abstract interpretations, the artists respond to everyday scenes in the world around us.
Normal gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. “Surroundings” runs from July 20 to August 13. During the Wiscasset Art Walk on Thursday, July 28, hours are extended until 8 p.m.
“How we react to a specific environment is determined by many internal and external aspects: our own cultural background, our personal tastes, our artistic influences, our personality and our emotional experiences in a given place”, explains Mark Coates, curator of the museum. To display. Coates invited each artist to select 15-20 pieces of their work that reflect the theme of “the environment”.
The gallery thanks season sponsors Les Fossel Restoration and Sherri Dunbar of Tim Dunham Realty for their support, and Cromwell Coastal Properties for sponsoring our season courses. Feel free to pause and admire the interesting pine cone sculpture by Patrick Plourde on the side lawn of the gallery from one of the four Adirondack chairs donated by Ames Supply. The sculpture, which is fashioned from shovels, is available for sale.
