Seashell Sculpture – Bayside News
An acclaimed local artist has been commissioned to create a sculpture at Karingal Hub.
The sculpture will be installed in the new plaza of the shopping center. McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park alongside mall owner ISPT selected artist Christabel Wigley (pictured left) to create the piece.
The artwork will be a 2.4 meter high shell-inspired piece titled Sound Shell. Wigley said she hoped the sculpture would “connect the viewer and the community to nature, much like holding a seashell to your ear when away from the seaside and immediately transporting you to another time and place through your sensory memory”.
Karingal Hub Center Manager Richard Devlin said: “We are truly delighted to see Christabel Wigley’s Sound Shell come to life and take pride of place at the Karingal Hub. We hope the local community will feel a sense of connection with this piece which thoughtfully incorporates the history of the Bunurong people and the elements of the ocean. This addition perfectly complements the redevelopment of the center as well as our wider public arts programme, transforming Karingal Hub into a premier shopping and lifestyle destination.
