Exhibition of prints at Sculpture By the Lakes
A winter exhibition celebrating contemporary printmaking can soon be seen in a picturesque location.
Gallery by the Lakes, at Sculpture by the Lakes in Pallington Lakes, near Dorchester, has announced its latest event for 2022 – an exhibition and series of workshops celebrating printmaking.
Look for! A Journey Through Print Land, which opens November 5, will feature pieces from Citizens of Print Land, a collective of nine Southwestern artists, who share a love of traditional printmaking techniques including woodcut, linocut and screen printing, and use them to create vibrant images that celebrate the beauty of our landscape, both in the countryside and in the city.
Madeleine Bertorelli, director of Gallery by the Lakes, said the title of the exhibition, Look Up, is about “imagining a place without smartphones or Zoom calls”. A place where your to-do list consists only of the instruction to slow down and look up.
She said, “With a focus on exploration, this exhibition showcases the Citizens of Print Lands’ collective sense of curiosity and experimentation within their respective practices. Parallel to the work on paper, a certain number of “sculptural interventions”; the print that has outgrown its usual two-dimensional format and literally jumps off the page, blurring the line between print and sculpture. Prepare to have your eyes bathed in colors, textures and patterns.
Madeleine added: “There is nothing more inspiring than an artist sharing their passion and process with you, so we look forward to hosting this series of artist-led workshops where participants can experiment and enjoy. what they created; one of the pleasures of printmaking is the immediacy it offers.
Throughout the exhibition, members of the Citizens of Print Land group will also present a series of workshops and events inviting gallery visitors to try out some of the printmaking processes and discover for themselves the joys of engraving.
The work will be presented by established and exciting artists Paul Cleden, Jane Chapman, Rebecca Dury, Rebecca Guyett, Robin Mackenzie, Colin Moore, Jason Pizzey, Lisa Takahashi and Noah Warnes. Look for! A Journey Through Print Land opens November 5 and runs through December 23.
Admission to Gallery by the Lakes and Café by the Lakes is free. Entrance to Sculpture by the Lakes sculpture park costs £14.50.
